Lt. plays pattycake. 21 US troops die in 48 hours in Afghanistan.

Thanks for the heads up Resident Author on this story.

A few have stated that I'm too tough on the Lt. in the previous post for playing pattycake.

I'm not at all sorry for my characterization.

Follow this link and feel the pain.

Marines are involved in combat.  The special trust and relationship requires that she prepare her Marines to survive the horrors of war.  Playing pattycake isn't getting that done.

  1. Just to encourage your outrage, Sol, I'd like to direct your attention to recent primetime television. My wife dragged me into watching some Chef/cooking reality show where they had to feed a company of marines - she asked me who paid for the marines to be on TV, and I suggested maybe it was just helpful for recruitment. Then yesterday she points out a commercial wherein the marines are doing another show - don't remember if it was the biggest loser show or one of the others - but they're hamming it up lately. I think this is the new face of our military - convince the public that they're just nice people with terrific posture.

  2. I can see the anger against the brass, the misdirections [*]... I fail to see the reason against the Lt. For all we know she might be between deployments, unwinding. Or she might have been told "shut up and look merry". I don't see how she could have refused being there. In the chance that she could have resigned, that would have left the Corps one marine short, and I'm not sure at all they wouldn't have put someone in her place, probably someone who was needed elsewhere.

Sorry if I look like a lawyering REMF. Take care.

[*] Which, BTW, have been going on for the last 9 years, as far as I know.
