Who gives a damn if a Marine dies?

No Title

Take a man and put him alone
Put him twelve thousand miles from home
Empty his heart of all but his blood
Make him live in sweat in mud

This is the life I have to live
This the soul to the devil I give
You have your parties and drink your beer
While young men are dying over here

Plant your signs on the white house lawn
"Lets all get out of Vietman"
Use your signs and have your fun
then you refuse to use a gun

There's nothing else for you to do
Then I'm supposed to die for you
There is one thing that you don't know
and thats where I think you should go

I'm already here and it's too late
I've traded all my love just for hate
I'll hate you till the day I die
You made me hear my buddy cry

I saw his leg and his blood shed
then I heard them say "This one's dead"
It was a large price for him to pay
to let you live another day

He had the guts to fight and die
to keep the freedom you live by
By his dying your life he buys
but who gives a damn if a marine dies

Rest in peace Steve Jobs...but remember...

Remember your Marines, Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen that are in harms way.

Steve brought you entertainment.

The military is fighting and dying for you.

Give a damn when one of them dies.

  1. Sol,

This is what I posted on my facebook page:

Americans priorities are so misplaced that our entire nation is mourning the passing of one great man, Steve Jobs, while already this month we have lost 3 great men in Afghanistan, yet Americans do not even knows their names let alone mourn them. Their names are:

10/1/2011 Petty Officer 1st Class (USN Seal) Nelson, Caleb KIA Zabul, Afghanistan
10/3/2011 Private US Army Chen, Danny, KIA Kandahar, Afghanistan
10/4/2011 Name and rank not provided, awaiting family notification KIA Eastern Afghanistan

I get it Mr. Jobs was amazing, but I think these young men deserve at least to have their names mentioned. To date 4,477 Dead and 33,151 wounded, is it time to bring them home yet?

Thanks for all of your hard work, I thoroughly enjoy your effort!

    Semper Fi!

  2. Well spoken. Both of my uncles' were in Vietnam, thankfully both came home, changed men. I like how PBS at the end of their news hour, honors the names of fallen soldiers in the war on terror. Yes, they should come home, it's time!

  3. Thanks Wil!

When my friends and I are discussing politics...when we're talking about what went wrong here in the US, we all circle back to misplaced priorities.

I almost threw up when I watched the morning news and everyone was acting like Jobs was the second coming. Don't get me wrong. He was a great man. But he is no more important or relevant than the guys that are out there getting it done everyday. A dirty secret is that the garbage man that pics up your trash everyweek is probably a bigger hero.

We can't fix things until we get our priorities straight. I think this was another wake up call and I think many people slept thru it.

But again, thanks for the kind words. Rant's over.
