Breaking News. Soldier walks off base and kills Afghans.

Thanks for the heads up Joe.

This was bound to happen.  You see your buddies getting shot, blown up and all sorts of nonsense and then the people that you're suppose to be training start killing coalition forces...

A fool could see this from a mile away.  Anyway check this out from the BBC.
A US soldier in Afghanistan is reported to have killed a number of Afghan civilians after walking off his base in Kandahar province.
The soldier - who surrendered to the US military authorities - is thought to have had a breakdown, reports the BBC's Quentin Sommerville in Kabul.
Nato said it was investigating the "deeply regrettable incident".
Local tribal leaders said women, children and men were among the dead in Panjwai district.
The governor of Kandahar province, Tooryalai Weesa, confirmed there were casualties, but said the exact number of dead and injured would be made known later.
The Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) said in a statement that US officials in Afghanistan would work with their Afghan counterparts to investigate what happened.
"This is a deeply regrettable incident and we extend our thoughts and concerns to the families involved," Isaf added.
Our correspondent reports sources in Kabul as saying the soldier had some kind of breakdown just before leaving the base and opening fire on civilians.
The incident comes as anti-American sentiment runs high in Afghanistan following the burning of copies of the Koran by US soldiers at a Nato base last month.
US officials apologised, but the incident sparked a series of protests and attacks that killed at least 30 people and six US troops.
I hope the President of the US has enough common FUCKING SENSE to not apologize for this.

But I'm not holding my breath.

NOTE:

To all the apologist out there understand something.  We've been teaching these people for 10 years to form an army.  We've pumped in billions of dollars to build up their country.

All we get in return are our soldiers and Marines killed and wounded and the projects that we're building FOR THEM destroyed almost as soon as they're built.

We owe the people of Afghanistan nothing.  Not even an apology...

  1. i feel the solider is going to be sacrificed in a court martial when it sounds like he needs mental health treatment, its sad but i dont see them treating him fairly. Also this is a good reason of why it was the right decision to leave Iraq when we did, Iraq was not going to give our soliders immunity and there was NEVER EVER going to be a fair trial for american soliders in an iraqi court. I know there are contractors there but what they do is their business, they dont have to be there like the soliders do.

  2. if that command has any sense and if i know that Marine General in charge any at all i'll bet that he was on a plane to Germany about an hour after this incident...that all bases have probably been stood too and all FOBs are braced for enemy action.

sounds dramatic but you can bet that this is truly the beginning of the end for us in Afghanistan.

this war is over. we don't trust them, they don't trust us and this show of us working together has finally been shown to be a fraud.

the only good thing is that now the Afghans that we're training will have to look over their shoulders just like our guys have to do with them.

  3. i agree, and if the navy corpsman has any sense he would be in a psychiatric ward at the hospital. He needs a mental health evaluation. Early adulthood is a common time for those who are going to develop psychosis for it to be their first psychotic break. Also stress is one trigger for those breaks, so its not out of the ordinary to see and if he has serious mental health issues he needs treatment. Justice is not always punishment, but the politicians have their goals and they arent the best for our members deployed as you have said and i completely agree with.

  4. Solomon, are you serious?

"We owe the people of Afghanistan nothing. Not even an apology..."

so women & children deserve to die?? because soldiers die in the line of duty, i'd like you to say the same thing if the women & children where in the u.s. or european.

The soldier, signed up to do a dangerous job, simply put he is responsible for his own actions, if this occured in the u.s. he would have a "short" life on death row.

I would agree with the point his superiors, should have spotted any visable extreme signs of stress* or other pychological* problems.

*of course there will be stress associated with combat.

  5. and what about all the allied soldiers that have died at the hands of our allies? their families received nothing but a flag draped coffin. that bastard Karzai didn't apologize and if he did it would mean nothing.

its amazes me that enemy/so called allied behavior can be forgiven or justified but any mishaps on our part are overlooked.

additionally let me ask this. how many predator strikes have killed civilians? how many night time raids have killed civilians. death is death whether by accident or whether its intentional.

but i see where you're coming from. i just don't agree.

    1. Have you seen some of the pictures of the old men & children, that this soldier killed. I dont mean 14 or 15 year old "kids", but toddlers and old age pensioners. I dont have a problem with death in the course of duty, Killing civilians intentionally, is wrong, targeting children, is apporant.we should hold ourselfs upto a higher standard than those we fight against.

No i dont forgive allied behaviour, but i also dont think it's the norm, how many patrols, operations have been fought side by side, how many translators are embeded with allied troops, how often are allied troops guarded by the ana, that this isn't more prevailant, shows to an extent they, the majority, dont want the taliban back. They join the ana for a number of reasons, paypacket, conviction for a better future, no other option & a very small minority, to undermine allied forces.

Karzai, is weak and will be gone soon after we are out of the country, he cant allie himself with us too close, if he wants to survive after our exit. It's like playing to your audience, like all politicians do. Not trying to make Karzai, out to be something he isn't. But he's in a tuff spot.
Do i hold out much hope for him after we leave, No. but i hope the person that replaces him wont be anywhere near as bad as the taliban.
