Russian separatist active in Estonia and Moldova??!!!!

Ok.

This shit is getting real.

Fox News is reporting that Russian separatist are active in Estonia and Moldova.  Shots fired, officials harassed...that kind of thing.

Why does this get my feathers ruffled?

Estonia is part of NATO.

We can't sit on the sidelines if things go south there.  We will be committed.  Europe will be committed.  Even if its just sanctions against Russia then this is turning into a huge shit sandwich for the world.

Why?

Because Russia's economy will tank.  The European economy will tank because they'll have to pay higher prices for fuel from other sources.  The world economy will slow down (if not tank) because speculators will jack up the price even beyond the natural increase that will occur.

Globalization is about to get shot in the head (if these reports are accurate).

More to come.

  1. Let's allow the European's to deal with this.....alone, two big nasty wars and an almost nuclear conflict averted several times.
Twice intervening in European affairs is enough.
We can sit this one out and deal with the winners whom ever they are and how ever they wish our relations be.
If the US had sat out WW 1 and let the Euros settle it their way the world would be far different place.
I don't know if it would have helped or harmed us today.
We are in the shit now because of an alliance with phucs who really don't like us, not saying the Estonian's are not our friends.
Like the old Ottoman and English empires alliances tipped the world into war this NATO alliance may just do the same.
Besides which our current leadership ain't up to the task.

    1. either our treat obligations are indeed obligations or they are just paper...which would make us a paper tiger, too.

They could have taken a pass at sending troops to Iraq or Afghanistan, but they took their pledge to support NATO seriously.

  2. The US can sit out the Ukraine, but it cannot ignore NATO obligations. On the larger picture, I cannot help but think that the Russians are making a huge miscalculation. It's almost like they think that they can cause the US economy to collapse by forcing the US to spend more on defense than it can afford. Sorta like happened to them when their economy collapsed. Not going to happen - there is tremendous wealth sitting on the sidelines in the US, unlike in Russia.

    1. Russians are just rattling the sabers to keep attention away from Krimea .So after things calm down Ukraine will be happy that it just lost the Krimea and much more.

  3. At the end of the day because all of NATO has cut their military, if we go to war with Russia, we will lose. The only way to win would be to go nuclear.

    1. you overestimate the Russian military. A combined NATO effort would finish Russia off... if it stays none-nuclear
