11 Luchtmobiele Brigade gets ready to step into the Ukrainian quagmire.

Cdr Salamander has the story and its a must read here (go there first and then come back).

Ok.  You're back.

Yes, I know they're only going to provide security for the crash site but this will predictably get messy.

All it will take is one undisciplined rebel and we're looking at the 3rd European war.  The one bright spot is that the 11th are probably a well trained force (I never heard of these guys so I'm assuming) and many of its members probably have experience in UN peacekeeping missions....so getting shot at and not being able to shoot back is something they're familiar with.

I still think this will end badly, and for little purpose.  The time to secure the site has long since passed.  Everyone knows that so this is something else entirely.  What?  I have no idea.

  1. Apparently the seps don't like and don't want people near the crash site (imo).

So, things are gonna be pretty tense to these dudes out there.

Off topic :BTW, vice news is preparing a video about ISIS. I've seen the trailer and it's interesting.

  2. I thought this might happen a few days ago. The Dutch are angry, after watching the outpouring of grief when the first caskets came home, there is probably massive public support to go in to the Ukraine to secure the site and rest of the victims/evidence. It's dangerous, and there is a high degree of risk to something else happening, but when the media floods the internet with dead Dutch children rotting in an 85F field while "rebels" are stealing credit cards/possessions of bodies it doesn't take much for the anger meter to flip to max. The politcos can say that it's Ukraine territory and the Ukr politcos have granted premission. So now the Dutch, whom we all know as wonderful, peaceful, artistic, life loving people may now be getting ready to send it airborne troops to secure the site.

    3. It's already deleted Andre, it was on Instagram under the nick "zolotosya" with connection with VKontakte. The profile was under the name of Jekaterina Romanowa that suppose live in Torez. When someone notice the post how she boast about how she steal the cosmetics and put a pic of it... well the shit storm started. People attack her from every angle with "thief" and "hyena". she respond that he is a separatist and she don't like everything related to Ukraine. That was probably the lousy try to justification. Then both profiles were deleted.

    1. this is not a NATO operation. why do you attempt to spread such disinformation. call it what it is. the EU has failed to act. the US doesn't really have a dog in the fight and a small European country is about to go it alone.

    2. How can you say that US/NATO isn't in despite the state departement / CIA created the maidan movement, organisated it, trained it, and the final situation ?
PS : Did you know there is much Shist Gas in Ukraine, and many other natural ressources which, before these evenment, were reserved to Yanoukovitch/ russia friends ?

    5. Yes, I'm from the country that left OTAN after an attempt of military coup, backed by CIA. That's why our country will be always OTAN/US sceptic.
This is usefull : we never send soldier looking for WMD in Irak...

    6. I'm mean you use OTAN designation not NATO, and I remember that in French language it's write in backwards to the English ones. As somebody say, the French and English are so much hate each other that they write in opposite direction just to piss other side off.

WTF are they going to do when a Russian armoured Brigade surrounds them and demands they disarm and surrender? Fight? Or doesnt even give them the option?

Every day we draw a new red line and Russia makes a point of publicly crossing it.

    1. You know that this will create a state of war between Holland and Russian Federation and this will include whole NATO to react?

    2. Nope, Ukraine is outside the NATO area, see the Falklands for precedent.
      And even if it does.

Russia has crossed every red line so far, why not this one?
Is Obama going to put Reforger in to play and try and bomb Moscow?

    3. I don't know TrT, but I don't think russians are crazy enough to do this....

If one of these soldiers die by Russian hands... Shit is gonna hit the fan pretty quick

And thats been the opinion every day for months, Russia wont dare cross this line.
Ok, they crossed that line, but they wont dare cross this line.
      And so on.

  5. I fought with the Dutch in Afghanistan. There are two” Dutch militaries: “White” or conventional and their “Black” or SOF. Both had different ROEs. Both are squared away and disciplined, but what will make a difference is the ROE that they have to operate under. Will they go under an EU mandate or unilaterally as “Team Orange?” Also who is calling the shot at the Dutch MoD in The Hague? Or with the TF commander make the rules? Most of the Dutch Army I served with look to put Srebrenica behind them. I bet the US will provide some logistics and intelligence support. I wish them the best.

    1. This is a very fine line. The economy of The Netherlands will be affected if things get nasty with Russia. 15% (or more) traffic that's coming in and out of Hamburg are Russian. And this is just one slice.

Obama is playing poker with someone who's got five aces. The EU is ... DONE. Unfortunately, any military action The Netherlands will undertake will have to be done by themselves.

PS: Please DO NOT take your Leopards over there. The German will get angry.
