If you believe that this type police activity will calm the situation then you're being naive. This is totally unsat and if a US Marine was caught doing the same he'd be underneath the brig...and that's if he was dealing with a foreign national in a far off land.
So far they have arrested at least 14 journalists, 1 legal observer from National Lawyers Guild, raised weapons on civilians and journalists. Threatened to fire on them. Calling them names. Fired CS canisters and rubber bullets directly on them, censored news channel coverage.

i didn't know that but that just makes it worse. this is a wake up call for the American people but it seems that most refuse to see it. we have real deal issues to take care of and this type of barbarity in the name of the people is going on. amazing!

yeah i noticed the "extra layers of body armor carried internally" by that fat ass cop. i wonder why they don't have fitness standards especially if their primary work is dealing with hyper active criminal 18 year olds? heck i do it and my only concern is protecting me and mine. that alone shows how unprofessional that clown is! how do you call yourself a gunslinger if you can't even move properly?

From the looks of it, they just grabbed whoever, gave them the gear, and told them to "project authority". Forget the fact that you dont deploy officers armed with long-barreled live weaponry in the middle of the corwd, since if thing turn rough, they get overwhelmed and crooks take possesion of assault rifles. That guy looked like he is about to shit his pants, and hopelessly out of control. That is not the behavior of proper riot police. Riot handling involves you geing stone cold, emotionless, like an immovable wall. You have to radiate complete authority and superiority, you have to look like you are already in control. Handling riots involves as much psychology as tear gas and rubber bullets. And these guys don't look like they are in cotrol at all. Heck, they look scared. I served in IDF MP, had to deal with riots and demonstrations on occasion, although most of the job was done by MAGAV and YASAM, I can tell, these guys are out of their place.

Until a few days ago I did not consider the militarization of the police force as the first counter measures for what future terror attacks will look like. When the cells get the green light to hit, they will hit the schools, university's, malls, hospitals, restaurants, police stations, fire stations, ems, airports, local-state-federal government offices, highways and bridges: Is that when the true nature of this ramp up get publicized? The American public is not being given the whole story once again. When the above shit hits the fan aren't we all gonna want the Police, as the first responders to be running in door with the heavy stuff?

Will we want AR's, armored vehicles and as much military gear on our cops when they go into that mall or hospital to save our families and kill the bad guys then- HELL YES.

From memory, average police response time in USA to mass shooting, 7 minutes. Average duration of mass shooting, 5 Minutes. Police don't do jack shit, they arive in nearly (as in 99.9999% of cases) after a crime has been commited, then they record that in their little log book and draw a nice chalk line around you cold dead body, and go back to eating do nuts curtsey of the generous tax payer.
DeleteThe NSA cant stop them either solomon, when asked in court if they have ever prevented a terrorist attack in america, they couldnt name a single case. They simply record everything you do and say and whatnot, and then if they have a problem with you, they dig that all up and see what they can find on you. Like the policemen, they wait untill after the crime is done, or till they are required to dig dirt on someone, and then they destroy that person. And who is to even say they are going to communicate digitally, or if digitally, in a way that is recordable (i.e. not heavily encrypted).
The only thing that stops bad guys with guns or bombs or knifes that want to kill or hurt people, is more guns with good guys at the other end. You simply can't carry policemen in your pockets, and anyone who thinks that the role of policemen is to be their personal, private body-guard is delusional. People must take personal responsibility for their own personal protection, especially in these days when governments go overseas to make enemies, then import millions of their people into your country to kill you.
Honoustely I have no idea why you americans put up with this nonsense, the american police force have already killed over 5,000 unarmed civilians since 9/11 and that is just with official figures, then there are all those dubious knock and announce raids, where they storm the houses of people in the middle of the night and often end up shooting people.

Now they are recording everything you do and say, driving arround in military vehicles, and you americans just accept that.... When the Head of yahoo asked why she didn't want to talk about it (the illegal spying), she said she can't, that she could go to jail, when the journalist asked on what charges, she said 'treason'.
No kidding, america is at least as bad (as they claim), if not worse than any of those other countries they are demonizing like Egypt or syria or libya.
There may have been 5000 shot and killed, but that includes armed encounters which makes up the mass majority of that number. By the way the taser is a great tool when it works that damages both the officer and offender less than physical fighting. Id take a 1volt taser ride over pepper spray or being hit with the new RCB batons any day because after 5 sec its over. By searches you must mean frisks? A search is different from a frisk a search needs probable cause where as a frisk/pat down only needs reasonable suspicion that you may have a weapon. Some things that bring someone up to reasonable suspicion is someone being in a gang, drug dealer, or someone they know that has had previous gun arrests. I think the ruling was they were articulating the facts of the stop question and frisk fine, but that more minorities where being frisked than whites so it unfairly targeted minorities. Now a police officer can walk up to anyone and ask them how their day is going then as if he can search them. if they say yes its called a consensual search which outside of probable cause, search incident to arrest, exigent circumstances, or kidnapping of a child. Of course in the child incident I would ask consent to search the home and unless there was child porn or a body I don't care I just want to find the kid.

I hate when officers act like idiots. 1 why the F is he "in" the crowd? Even if you try to give the smallest benefit that maybe he was trying to go after someone to arrest he should not have gone into the crowd without more officers. 2. I don't know why anyone would want to deploy a carbine in a crowd. I get having an over watch with a better view point and cleaner shot if someone in the crowd presented a gun or tried to throw a fire bomb.
ReplyDeleteSadly though I really don't know of many police departments that train for crowd control. I know we have the gear, but I have never been through a class of any type for it nor trained with a large number of officers so we all know what to expect. Its sad, but if there was money for riot training many would say the police are training to subdue the population. Im sure LA, New York, and New Orleans probably train for crowd control, but look at the history.
They are putting untrained officers in a situation they don't know how to deal with and it will go bad. Under trained in this type of situation = fear which = nothing good.

Its not complicated, but it sucks. My department went to a mandatory level of fitness a few years back, but the level of fitness was determined through input from the old guys who were afraid the city was just trying to boot them out to keep them from getting retirement so they purposely put low standards to make sure when the young guys put in higher standards it would bring them down.
DeleteWe have many out of shape where I'm at, but a larger number of young guys are staying in shape or getting back in better shape. A ton of it has to do with the work and the availability of very inexpensive bad food. It is bad when I can eat many places for less than the cost of making a sandwich.
You also have the Feds suing departments for even having a minimum standard to get in because it unfairly targets women.

This will not help matters when it comes to getting officers into shape when the feds bust in and want to change the standards. Oh and I'm sure theirs isn't much different then ours where a 10min mile pace is good enough and your only talking about 25 pushups and situps to pass.
Then you have a department that says that only specialized units can work out on duty or their lunch, but patrol officers are not allowed to. This is rarely enforced, but at any point when I workout at work on my lunch break I can be disciplined for it. The sad fact is in shape officers recover quicker from injuries and cost the cities much less money, but at least where I'm at I'm "on duty" and subject to a call while at lunch so the city does not want to be liable for any injuries sustained while working out.

Seems to me, that it is entirely plausible that an officer with a state of mind similar to the one depicted here, could easily gun down an unarmed suspect in the middle of the street in broad daylight... but that's just me.

Bodycams are coming on strong these days. In car video used to be something for only large departments, but now almost everyone has it, body worn is the next step. I used to not like the idea of either one (micro management tool for supervisors), but they help clear alot of Officers.

DeleteI had this thought a while back: Why not put a micro cam on the officers sidearm? Halfway through the trigger travel it snaps a photo and adds the adjusted aim point to the image. We see what the officer sees in the forward quarter and what he is aiming at as the trigger is pulled... You could have the image saved wirelessly on the PD's cloud network...that only the higher ups have control over.
It would be compact enough and light enough not to hamper any movement, or get snagged on anything while operating. Think the camera in your smartphone but smaller and more rugged, fits like any other attachment to the sidearm...No more fog in figuring out if the shots themselves were justified, but hey that's some 2025+ stuff. I don't think we're there yet.
Moreover, what's stopping the cop from simply tampering with or turning the device off? Sure, good cops will use it no problem...it's the bad apples in the bunch you have to worry about. I predict "My camera magically quit working moments before I shot the guy 7 times." will be heard all over the place.
There are weapon mounted cams for Tasers that I know of. The thing is that most of the departments I know of who have tested them have found the footage of them to be unusable mostly due to the inherent instability of the platform. A number of reasons for this have been hypothesized but the one I would assume to be most significant would be the officer's adrenaline . Body mounted cams have proven much more stable and reliable (camera mass being less a disadvantage when mounted on the body and not effecting the balance of a weapon) but I cannot think of any reason why a body cam might not be able to be designed to have a priority mode when a weapon is drawn (something involving a sensor in a holster or some such).
DeleteLooks to me what you need is to adopt the Gendarmerie model like French or Italian one. You wouldn't have a militarized police force, you would get better trained officers from a selected pool by military standards for specific roles that police can't deal. Plus in corrupt countries like Italy rivality between police and carabinieri reduce the risk of one being infiltrated by the criminality and boost the efficiency. They normally are better viewed than police forces.
