Strike 2 for law enforcement. What happens when cooler heads don't prevail?

This is the second high profile standoff between police and law enforcement.

No matter what your feelings on either case, one thing is obvious.  Law enforcement backed off in both of them.

The question must be asked.

What happens when they don't and keep pushing?  What happens when cooler heads don't prevail in the headshed of the cop shop?  What happens when events spiral so fast that the on scene commander in the middle of the drama decides to "teach the public a lesson"?

Unless things change we're heading toward a major incident.  I don't know if LE will adjust procedures quickly enough to prevent it, but if they don't then blood will be spilled.

  1. After seeing them shoot tear gas, I've decided to rethink putting a gas mask in my bug out gear. I'm told for most people it's a waist, but you never know when someone might decide to just gas a place you happen to be in.

By the way Ferguson police said in a statement that no tear gas was used.

    3. a proper gas mask can help against CS gas and other aerosol type irritants. against certain type of diseases i'm not sure...always been told to have an N95 mask for that.

    4. dedicated CBRN equipment/HAZMAT is an astronomically expensive thing to get into if that is the preparation route you decide to go into. There is a lot of homework and research involved too. I know a couple people deepling involved in CBRN prepping.

But for a deterrence against CS, a military promask works just fine, particularly, the M40. Having extra filters, lenses, spare parts, and equipped canteens wouldn't be completely out of the place either.

Having N95 masks is a given, particularly in a "get home bag".

    5. Dropped my mask coming out of the gas chamber at Geiger, a panic Marine ran between me and another Marine, knocked his down also. Ya know the rules, drop your mask, come out without it and you go back inside after it's tossed in, That first taste of CS/DM terrorized my young seventeen year old ass, I almost refused to go back in after the Troop Handlers threw the masks in. But I did so did my pal, we stood and watched mask less as the new guys got the gas, they went insane! Pounding the walls, screaming, choking, puking running into walls while me and my pal stood amazed! One dose of gas is hell, two doses of gas is nothing.
I learned a very good lesson that day, two actually, never drop your gas mask and two doses of tear gas cancels out the one dose.
Carry a container of water to flush out the eyes, puke if you have too, cry but if you do not panic it will not affect you.

  2. Probably unrelated to anything, but I find it funny how the picture you choose has the guy using a kalashnikov considering the recent ban and all.

    1. the ban is irrelevant. the only thing it did was push prices up but there are so many floating around and so many people hurting financially that you can find one at a decent price.

  4. I still feel that people going there armed was an idiotic decision. If all the cameras of the world are pointed on you, making the police fire first without anything that could be construed as provocation is what matters. The SCLC found that out the hard way. Solomon, I know that you think that armed people showing up is what drove them back - I feel the opposite. The federal government wanted/ a firefight to break out there, so they could rag on about "extremist right-wing militias" and "Tea Party types".

  5. Hey Sol looting still went on even after the lets all get along moment. A curfew will be instituted tonight. Also I think it was a good move to try a different tactic, but in watching 1 video the captain or whoever walks with the crowd into oncoming traffic, which is against the law to impede traffic protest or not.

    1. i've been reading some of the law enforcement blogs on this and you're parroting what they're saying. i just want to point out that the escalation that the St Louis cops tried was going to lead to trouble. they over reacted. second, last nights rioting is because the ferguson pd are simply incompetent. the police chief is an IDIOT. why would you put something as inflamatory out as that when you're not in court? additionally you've seen it and so have i. you point to additional looting as justification for the goons from the county acting like pure dee fools but ignore the fact that anarchist, thugs and other criminals show up at these events. as far as the state police capt walking with the protesters and that being a crime? bullshit and you know it. actually i thought you were better than trying to shovel shit at me. if the police decide to treat a demonstration as a parade then its legal as hell.

personally i don't care. the race monsters on both sides are trying to make it into sometype of race war in the making. its not. this is long simmering tensions punctuated with economic conditions finally bubbling to the top.

but no worries. you probably want them to get tough and they probably will. blood will be shed and i won't give a fuck....only marvel at how idiotic some in the law enforcement community truly are.

    2. I don't want blood shed. I think they need to go after the looters and hard, but the race baiters will try and spin even that. I think the same guys that would be stealing are the guys that are mainly doing the looting and yes the anarchist guys probably saw a great opportunity too. I doubt many of them live in the community. That is one of the worst things about it. Those stores may never rebuild and many may move out lowering the communities standard of living.

By the inflammatory are you talking about the robbery video?

I guess I have my feelings do to a shooting we had in my area. It was justified with video showing everything. Heck the investigation was wrapped up in less than a month. Still the officer had hundreds of death threats. Officers were accosted every time we made contact with a black person and some sides of town were even told to stop self initiating any contact even if the people were coming from known drug and gang houses until everything settled down. So crime went up in those areas for a few months for no reason other than sensitivity. It may have been the right thing to do until the racial tension settled down, but to those trying to better the community they work for knowing the department may leave you hanging for doing your job sucks.
As far as the laws are where I am you have to have a permit to protest on a street or to parade mainly for safety reasons. I think if they do either they provide officers to block the streets for them. If they don't have one then its hindering traffic and an arrestable offense.

    3. as far as the parade or protest down the middle of the street, why would you not think that the State Police Captain wouldn't have covered that base? i mean seriously! you don't think that he's professional enough to have done that?

as far as not policing certain areas of town until racial tension calms ... the good with the bad. if so called leaders of the community make that call then they roll with the consequences. its not a matter of sucking or not. its just the way it is and you know that many good people are going to be hurt by the decisions that their so called leadership makes.

additionally as far as the tape is concerned. it was beyond unprofessional. that Chief has been caught lying his ass off on several occasions. additionally the FBI is going door to door with 40 agents and they're still good enough, i think, to put the real facts of the case out there.

long story short, that police dept tried to play a mix of secret squirrel/ CIA and propaganda network once the media arrived and didn't give the citizens the information they needed to properly deal with the situation.

if the guy was a scumbag and i don't know...i'm waiting to judge...and if the officer made contact with a person for a simple offence and then discovered he was wanted for a strong arm robbery then that will certainly cloud the issues with the shooting....in the officers favor.

BUT I HAVE NOT FOCUSED ON THE SHOOTING!!!! I'VE FOCUSED ON HOW THE COUNTY POLICE ACTED LIKE FUCKING NAZIS!

police supporters are reflexively grabbing at every nugget to justify those tactics, but thats bullshit. i said earlier that i personally have never had a bad encounter with police. thats true. but to see combat tactics used like we're living in a 3rd world nation should shock every real American.
