Mission Creep on steroids. Army Division HQ headed to Iraq.

via Army Times.
As the U.S. expands its war against the Islamic State, the Army is preparing to deploy a division headquarters to Iraq.
Officials have not identified the division that will deploy — the first division headquarters to go to Iraq since the U.S. withdrawal in 2011.
An official announcement is expected in the coming days. But Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno recently confirmed the Army “will send another division headquarters to Iraq to control what we’re doing there, a small headquarters.”

It’s unclear how many soldiers will be sent, or how long they will deploy. Division headquarters average between 100 and 500 soldiers and deploy for one year.
You can stick a fork in it.

We're back at war in Iraq.

  1. Well Sol, it was clear as far back as the time I saw that rail march of a Brigade (100 vehicles) of M-1's with it's gear loaded headed East.
No tank training grounds are east nor tank armies.
    Just Ports.
Like it or not with poor leadership in place we are back in Iraq, mission creep will commence the first time some REMF Officers get killed.

  2. Somewhat related news, I just read on one of the Iranian boards, they believe that the strikes were coordinated and/or organized for the benefit of the Kurds and had little to do with ISIS, interesting rumor.....

    1. It's clear now that ISIS has just been a covertly supported excuse to finally start bombing Syria after Russia cock-blocked the US/Israeli/Saudi ambitions there. Once the bombs start falling, almost anything can be said to be an ISIS-held target. Meanwhile, we're funding the "good extremists", who will now have air support. While ISIS undergoes more name changes until, in six months, the general public forgets them completely.
