The Ranger Tab becomes worthless.

via Army Times.
The Army is looking for female soldiers who want to volunteer to attend Ranger school.
The call-out is part of the Army’s ongoing effort to determine whether and how to open combat arms military occupational specialties to women.
Senior Army leaders are expected to decide in January if they want to move forward with this one-time, integrated Ranger school assessment. If the assessment moves forward, it likely will take place in the spring, and the Army will need volunteers already in place and ready to go, officials said Friday.
If the assessment takes place, it will be a first for the storied Ranger school, which until now has been open only to men.
“Right now we’re going through the deliberate planning process, identifying volunteers, and selecting them over the next few months,” said Lt. Col. Alayne Conway, an Army spokeswoman. “In January, we’ll determine the feasibility of conducting an assessment of the Ranger course in the spring of 2015.”
Consider this a done deal.

I find it funny that no one is coming forward and talking about the recruiting difficulties that the services are facing now.

I've gotten too many e-mails from Marines on the trail that tell me about the troubles that they're running into making mission.  They blame former, retired and vets being pissed at the President and Amos...second come the message that males are getting burned by disgruntled females for chickenshit reasons...and last is the lowered standards/push for women in combat arms.

This move by the  Army won't help things.

Being blunt.  I only have respect for only a few Army outfits.  I only respect a few of their schools.

One of them WAS the Ranger course.  After this?  No more.  Ranger school will do as ordered and some female will be wearing a Ranger tab she didn't earn.

Awesome.  Just don't expect me to respect it anymore.  Those days are over.

Sidenote:  Isn't it strange?  On one hand we have men that assault women being charged with not only assault but domestic violence (if they know them) and yet on the other those same people are pushing to have women in combat arms!

  2. Before I get accused of being a sexist, chauvinist pig, I consider myself a "rationalist", acknowledging the good that the feminist movement has done in regards to establishing equality, radical lunatics aside that lead to the feminist movement to be given a negative reputation. Hell, I consider myself a feminist in some regards, probably to the chagrin of many in the warrior culture.

With that being said, this is going to be a disaster for multiple reasons.

Apparently the Army learned nothing of the Kathleen Wilder debacle and the immense problems it caused the SOF community. That is a whole other story for another time that proves the point that the Army will not hold women to the standards necessary for Ranger or Special Operations. Standards designed to forge elite warriors, not cater to social experiments at the cost of unit capability and readiness, are supposed to be discriminatory, if you call it that; discriminatory against those physically weaker. This is for a good reason, no?

Its really an argument against scientific fact: that even the most physically elite woman is still physically weaker musculoskeletal-wise than even an athletic man, let alone elite athleticism necessary for conducting the unforgiving mission of operating behind enemy lines with just your rucksack. Research in the United States and UK has refuted the idea of women being capable of being, well, "equal" in regards to physical capability. This is most damning from the aspect of women in Ranger or SF roles.

Another inconvenient fact is that there is no reason for women to serve in ODAs or within Ranger Regiments. There is no special niche that they fill that justifies the rule bending and manipulation of standards that will take place (and they WILL take place).

As I have argued before, there are plenty of roles women fulfill in the armed forces excellently. SF/Ranger/SEAL/MARSOC are not among of them. People will get killed and the particuarly sensitive nature of special operations missions compromised to appease radicals in power trying to feed their pet rock.

Im glad im no longer in.

  3. Well when we see a female SF operative gang raped in an Islamic terror propaganda video I hope the feminists back home will be happy with their progress.

Feminism isn't about equality. If you think it is about equality you have no respect for motherhood and the traditional place the woman has in her part of marriage to keep the home running. Feminism is at it heart a misogynistic creed. Women have always had power in society; without women we would have no society, it is those truths that feminism denies. Who pays the price? Children, men, and ultimately women. Women have always been present in war, but not at the tip of the spear. It makes me sick.

  4. Woman's place is at home raising children, making food and some sewing.
God made them from our rib.
He equality if he wished, would have made the clay as Adam was made.
    hehe.

  5. I always say that... like the old sailor would say, woman on board is bad luck (I hope that my sister, the navigator in merchant navy is not reading this :D ) and woman in army, combat unit is not only bad luck. It's bad Mojo man...bad Mojo!

I think every feminist under 30 who thinks infanteering should be open to all should have a go.

    1. I like how at the beginning the cadets show up in a suit and tie. That's very buttoned-up and British of them. The US military should adopt that.

    2. Way back when I was a young cadet instructor we had a fresh out of the service Marine join the unit to look after the marine cadet section. Amongst a long list of changes he brought in was his persuading his youngsters always to turn up to (non-uniform) events in a collar, tie, jacket, and proper shoes. They looked awfully smart. Being an awful civilian more interested in engines, fun, and boats my "sailors" were never quite as smart. I like to think what we lacked in sartorial elegance we made up with enthusiasm, expertise, and humour. We were definitely more 4077th than Brigade of Guards. Happy days.

  8. I find it interesting that the Army has not looked at the Marine Corps for these sorts of things. Yes, women have graduated from SOI but that is NOT Ranger School. Marine Corps OCS....no women have lasted more than the first week.....and that is NOT Ranger School.

Back in my much younger days when I was a snake-eater, I would see friends come back from Ranger School looking just this side of victims of starvation. God help you if you got between them and their chow! They would joke that the best way to attack a Ranger column is from the rear and working your way forward, one man at a time as they were all sleeping while marching.

IF the Army does not water down the reqirements, no women will EVER pass Ranger School. And if one or two actually do, is it worth the logistical nightmare to keep them in?

  9. Actuslly, the same thing can be said for Marine Corps infantry...is it worth keeping the extremely few women in that can pass the requirements? It would be interesting to hear from the men of the SOI classes that the women graduated with to hear their side. I am sure they are under lockdown from higher higher to keep yaps shut.

  10. Cue the caterwauling and gnashing of teeth when they have the same 100% drop rate as IOC; or on the other side, when Big Green booster-steps most of the Ranger Barbies to passing grades, after careful redaction of actual scores, and throwing out their "bottom 10%"/"would not serve with" peer evals and Unsat spot reports.

At which point, that Ranger tab will be worth just about the exact $2 or so you pay for it at uniform sales.

  11. There has only been one woman to pass the All Arms Commando Course,

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippa_Tattersall

She isn't a she man and lithe small Marines aren't uncommon but read on.........

    http://www.arrse.co.uk/community/threads/only-female-commando-gets-hitched-daily-wail.177888/

One of the reasons why ARRSE is a bit unpopular with the MoD is that the truth always comes out.

  12. If you want to have an idea at what's awaiting US Infantry units which are gonna enlist women, you should check the record of our "Desert Lynx" Battalion ... It's an embarassment to any genuine infantryman !
And the worst part is reading about the spin they give in the media to most topics associated with that joke of a unit.
