BAE Future Technology Demonstrator with an Integrated Directed Energy Weapon

Future Technology Demonstrator with an Integrated Directed Energy Weapon. Our Hybrid Electric Drive technology is demonstrated to deliver real durability, vision and execution, and provides enough electrical power to host next-generation weapons and technology.
What are defense reporters covering if this isn't front page news at AUSA?  Just plain wow.  This is how you know the services are only talking about energy independence for deployed forces.  What am I talking about?  Hybrid engine tech works and works now.  Even the tree huggers in the Obama Administration would love the military if they introduced hybrid engines into legacy and future vehicles.  That tech is ready now and no one is biting.

  1. This is the future lads, adding the DEW to this platform is like cherry on the cake.

We already test hybrid power pack on Anders platform, works good. So I presume this type of tech is in high development and testing phase on most of nations that invest in weapons tech.

  2. Not to pull the mike sparks card, but hybrid AFVs were already tested with the 113 and at the time (when fuel was substantially less expensive in the late 90s) the army didn't think that it needed them.

Its interesting that more companies are flirting with the idea that hybridizing AFVs, now that hybrid technology is well tested with motor vehicles and they have matured into very reliable power trains (like the toyota camry). Armored vehicles will be no exception.
