Advanced Staff Sergeant Major in MAGAV via Military Photos.

Just wow.  US style combat kit is now the world standard.  Its like this guy went to the website of every gucci gear site in the states and said "take my money".  From the gloves to the belt to even the goggles this must be making air soft players wet their pants.

  1. And watch it all come off in the afternoon. :)

He sort of needs it though, ate sand in the desert before. Not fun. Still have my balaclava and goggles from then even though I never use them much any more, but when you are there, you really do need them. One sandstorm and watch him turn brown.

  2. Well he look real "bad ass", and the look is one thing of the psychological warfare over the enemy... let them fear us! This is the universal law of war from beginning of time, look like the meanest, the baddest and the bloodiest motherfucker in the world and the enemy shit there pants.

Imagine that you fight in night and your position is stormed by dudes wearing that kind of stuff:

    1. That 'bad ass' look can scare amateurs , but pros in the field wont even bat their eye ... like the ISIS guys , who do not even retreat when facing the mighty Abrams..

the notion that gear and bad ass looks will scare the enemy are nothing but wistful thinking.. history proven that in real war these wont even matter.. the vietminh certainly didnt feel afraid or intimidated by the french military , one of the best from western world .. and the NVA certainly didnt feel afraid when they faced the mighty US marines attacking them attacking them in I Corps (DMZ)..

i see many kids / teens with too much Call of Duty sessions and their go-go spec-ops posters with distorted perception that the Spec Ops soldiers are supersoldiers who stand above ordinary grunts.. and they got shocked when they read the reality on the field that spec ops soldiers are just humans ...

    2. I admit you shine with stupidity again...

History did proven absolutely opposite thing then you are saying, absolutely opposite. From times of painted Pict's to the Napoleon Old Guard, from Norse warriors to Aztecs warriors, from Polish Hussars to Japanese Samurais, from Tsars Cossacks to Waffen SS, from Native Americans tribes to Spec Ops soldiers of modern day, from Samoan warriors to Zulu warriors ect... everyone of them and much more use visual intimidation in form of armors, tattoos, war paints and proper behavior. Your knowledge again proven to lack even fundamental information about warfare or even history.

Go outside and check if your are not there, then learn something about history of war and then you have a permission to speak.

    3. Relax, buntalanlucu tends to be on the rabidly negative side to any argument, just think of him as a super-pessimist. Though there is a slight truth to his post, when the adrenaline is flowing, you don't care, you just shoot.

    4. You maybe right Owl, forgive me.. I discover many years ago that I have small tolerance on bullshit and sometimes this is happening.

Adrenaline is an fuel of "fight&run" sometime it will fuel your warrior side, sometime it will power up your runner side. And it's work often in random way... so you can go in to full war mode or in the sight of man made horrors walking you will go i to full get the fuck of here mode.

    5. pessimist maybe, realist more likely.. but it is a folly to dress up with intention to scare your enemy.. only amateurs did that.. it wont have any effect on profesional enemy..

the gauls painted their body, sometime cut themselves up and making them fearsome looking, but the roman soldiers , although smaller stature, not impressed by gaul's display and proceed to won battle after battle with their tactic and discipline..

again i state that in reality of combat situation, especially in modern combat , your scary look or gear wont faze the enemy a bit... Did the talibans feared the SEALs when they attacked their position on Takhur Gar mountain ? Did the somali mililtia scared by rangers and delta appearance in mogadishu ? did mullah omar's men scared when they saw Delta force guys attackin their compound in kandahar 2001 ? NO in all of the above, in fact the enemy proceed to defeat the americans even in the face of superior firepower..

    6. Buntalanlucu you just confirmed Shas, i advice you to go and take a look at roman legions insignia, since they used standard equipment they showed their experience and battle proveness with their vexillum.
Here the wikipedia's voice in italian: http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insegne_militari_romane

other examples of intimidation are roman velites or oplites bronze armor replicaitng muscles.

Your example with gauls paintings is about two different cultures using different languages, one using body paintings, the other using symbols, wolfs hides and the most important of all discipline and training that are superior to the courage that gauls valued.

So the question for the examples you made is: did they understood who they were fighting? since there is a high change that a taliban is illitirate. For example during the terror attacks in mumbai the terrorists stopped to admire giant screens and computers since they never saw something similar....

    7. Not to mention the US military doesn't dress to overawe, they have a standardized uniform, so all the "US" examples you mention are not really valid.

And you're starting to sound like you have an anti-US bias by keeping track of all the US "defeats". Some of which were not defeats at all except in terrorist propaganda.

    8. Boy, answer why Spec ops in Afgan had long beard... you think because it was cool? About Romans, Meriv answer you very nice... I repet, you can speak about this topic when you learn something about it, for now you look like fool.

  3. On the Funny Off-Topic side : read this hilarious news ..

BERLIN, January 16. /TASS/. Russia may lift its ban on food imports from Greece in the event it quits the European Union, Russian Minister of Agriculture Nikolai Fyodorov told a news conference in Berlin on Friday.
Fyodorov is leading an official Russian delegation to the International Green Week public exhibition for the food, agriculture, and gardening industry.
“If Greece has to leave the European Union, we will build our own relations with it, the food ban will not be applicable to it,” he said.

He said that European Union countries, which felt discomfort from the slump in proceeds from exports of foods to Russia, were asking Russia to cushion the impacts of the Russian food import ban by expanding other types of imports. “We are looking at such possibility,” he said, adding that these countries offer new formats of cooperation in those areas that are not covered by the Russian food sanctions.

  5. Good Gear makes a difference. Not having to worry about one's kit means one less than to worry about in the fight. All the time I'm trying to find a better way to run my gear, being a professional means always looking for a better means. I just wish the Corps would spend money in a better way to get that kit to Marines. Now does that mean we need $1000 plate carriers? No, but use the money the right way to buy quality items, not design something to call your own just for the sake of having a "Marine Corps Plate Carrier".

Look and Act like a Professional.

  6. Um, I think it might be the other way around. Gloves and goggles aren't all that new and are practical.

The Israeli's were rocking the Ephod harness for 30 years. It's our gear that has been moving more away from the old ALICE gear toward vests, battle belts, etc. and looks more similar to the old canvas AK chest rigs

  7. Magav is Border Police unit and their main job is to quwell riotous mobs fueled by religous hatred. So the gear is mainly for protection from stones etc. and intidation second.
The Anti Terror unit is one of the best in the world winning international AT competitions in hostage rescue excercises. The hit first and scare later.😜
