via Mil.Gov.UA
Friday, January 30, DONBAS — According to the press center of the North Operations Command, the terrorists make attempts of break-through in Schastya, Krymske.
Military equipment is moved from RF in Lugansk direction and the illegal armed forces increase their forces. The combat tactics of the rebels: multiple rocket launcher attacks, shelling attacks, armor groups supported by infantry.
Artillery units of the North Operations Command accomplished 12 tasks in order to destroy the rebels’ fire emplacement and inflict losses. In the last 24 hours they have destroyed 6 armored vehicles.
The rebels have completed 24 attacks against the sector positions. The rebels traditionally mount their weapons in communities.
This news is from the Ukrainian military website.  How accurate is it?  Again, I don't know.  But it is another source of info.  Click the above link to go to the site.

  1. The main fighting currently seems to be for control of a key transportation center which was taken by Kiev in August.

    CBS:
The battles are ferocious. Pro-Russian rebel fighters are pushing forward under heavy fire, trying to surround the Ukrainian military who so far appear to be holding on. The town of Debaltseve is a strategic prize with key rail and road links. But the whole area is a battleground where sporadic shelling kills civilians randomly -- as it did Friday in Donetsk, where at least 12 civilians died. (end CBS)

Meanwhile Kyev is in grave economic danger. Hungarian-born billionaire George Soros warned that the West’s ability to support Ukraine financially against Russia was a key test of the strength of what he called a “disintegrating Europe” against a “resurgent Russia,” The International Monetary Fund has cobbled together a $17 billion program for Ukraine but says $15 billion more is needed. Soros has urged the West to step up aid to Ukraine, outlining steps towards a $50 billion financing package (not his money though).

    1. nice to see mr Soros directly involved and shown clear interest in this ukraine conflict.. Interesting, who is behind Soros really ?

as for this news, the Ukraine website should never be cited as a source because of it's history of falsifying news. The Colonel Cassad website are better news provider..

    2. Yes, but no military source should ever be trusted. The Pentagon calls it "strategic communications."
--"Strategic communication is focused United States Government efforts to understand and engage key audiences to create, strengthen, or preserve conditions favorable for the advancement of United States Government interests, policies, and objectives through the use of coordinated programs, plans, themes, messages, and products synchronized with the actions of all instruments of national power."

It has nothing to do with truth, and everything to do with promoting the government cause. --I'm not being tough on Solomon, he starts somewhere and throws the meat out there where we can pick at it, and he puts a disclaimer on it too. So he cited it, it's okay. I'm glad he does it, going places where others fear to tread. Must be a Marine or something.

    1. Russia is "in deep crisis?" --I don't think so.
Friedman gets the start of the "crisis" correct, it was US instigated. But then he talks about Russian failures, and that's not exactly correct in my view.
Europe and the US have also suffered failures, and it isn't over yet. Ukraine is now, thanks to the US, a poor needy child on Europe's doorstep, as its conscripted military fails, while the EU economy (and the euro) are suffering big-time. Friedman doesn't talk about those aspects but rather provides the conventional US-centric views which we can get from the NYTimes and WaPo, not based on reality.

  6. Solomon,
I'm following this conflict since feb/14 ... dozens of sources ... from ukrainian side, inforesist, informnapalm, mignews, liganet, liveuamap, euromaidanpress, nsdc, 24today, censor.net, twitter and facebook et all ... aside the regular daily analisys of the inforesist.org, all of em are just pieces of war propaganda for the ukraine gov ... special note to roman burko, a very good report when it came out, not on a regular basis ... unfortunally, since sept/14, burko started to work to ukrainian intel and now the reports are not so accute ...

About loses ... I can ensure you: all bullshit, crap numbers, just for internal consumption of ukrainians ... not even the ukrainian military take it seriously, many times in public (special investigation on their own congress), all due the flag of the fog of war and so ... google aydar, donbass and other battalions commanders complaining about the true numbers and the idiocy of their commander-in-chief (MoD etc) ... just google it, as i said, and you will find some good pictures about their lack of sense ...

By the way, looks that donbass "shock battalion" was hit a couple of hous ago, it's commander (semen) kia or wia or running to his facebook due PR ... the speaker of NSDC, anyway, is now called as "Comic Lysenco" ... they're just not serious ...

For biased but good news, look for colonel.cassad and voices of sevastopol ... dont lose your time trying the lifenews and all that crap of war propaganda ...try to double check inforesist/infornapalm x colonelcassad/voiceservas ... if it match on daily reports, take it for probable ... otherwise, just wait confirmation from the other side ...

MilitaryMaps also worth to check all the time ... liveuamap, no ...

    About the situation:

Heavy loses on each side, but, acordly Ukrainian Analyst --- Alexander Stepanchenko (inforesist), report of 30-01:

"Ukrainian troops are "smeared" across the front line with a thin layer. Thus the General Staff wants to control all the occupied territories. Formation separatists, on the contrary, focus on the important parts of the front, holding checkpoints major highways. Terrorist squads move mobile groups attacking the clumsy military machine APU. The effect of this tactic makes itself felt on a daily basis, it is enough to say that attacking terrorists, contrary to the rules of military science, have lower losses than defending Ukrainian troops".

Delbatsev pocket is now a boiller ... confirmed two hours ago ... there should be 8k troops there, but none is sure anymore... expect big numbers, maybe surpassing Iliovaysk loses (acordly Ukraine Govt, they lost 80% of armored forces there ... most of em, APC's and IFV's, but like a hundred tanks too ... that was in ago/set of last year ... now, the loses could be even bigger ... check (with lag of days or weeks) on lostarmour.info for photo confirmed kills ...

OFC, militias are sufering too ... and, in the long run, only by themselves, they cannot sustain that much ... ulike ukraine (145m ppl), they barrely can form 30k fighters ... so, if you read "north wind", it may refer the RF regular army, thats, as far as i understand from so far, are not in frontiline, acting as reserves just to be sure ... also, looks natural that RF military personal helps with artys and AAs all around ....

In terms of gross numbers, finnally, Ukraine was suposed to field 50k of regulars and 30k of voluntaries last month, and theyre already recruiting more 100k (maybe 40k after all -- evasions) to reach 250k manpower in the army ... please note that their army didnt release data from national guard, territorial battalions and right wing militias, and there was many foreigns on it ... (for instance ... on the donbass battalion, there's info about a canadian and a texan killed among them) ... facebook or official page to double check, pls

please, note that you must read it all in russian, using, if needed, google translate (the entire page) ... do not select US/RNG version of that websites, because its only partially translated and with lag of days ... on russian langage, its about real time cover ...

      good luck
