Kurganets-25 tracked armored vehicle

Defense Blog is reporting that the above pic is the first showing of the new Russian tracked armored infantry fighting vehicle, the Kurganets-25.

Read it and weep Marines.

Not only are the Chinese rapidly modernizing their armor but so are the Russians (their new tank is also being displayed...under a tarp).

When the next major war hits...and there will be a major war within our lifetimes...our enemies will have better armor than we do.

We better hope that the airpower enthusiast are right.  If they're wrong....and I believe they are (to include the airpower zealots in the Marine Corps) then you will see body bags filled because of the hubris of people that dealt in theory/hope instead of the reality of the battlefield.

  6. So they for real did dust of old Obiekt 195 with his crazy turret instead of design something new? I was expecting something... else.

  7. I think someone will be taken responsible for this grievous violation of military top secret! ;D

  8. New? What do you mean, pan? If they realize the capsule-idea well, it would be enough “new” for me personally.

    ReplyDelete
  9. That's look like and probably is the Object 195 with weird and huge turret that just ask to be shoot off... I was expecting that it was just a smoke screen for something more modern and advance in form of updated Object 640 not... a watch tower on tracks.

  10. hmm.
Don't know exactly. But I guess that capsule design it is what we need for the
Future nuke wars. Anyway – Practice is the main criteria of Truth. So I do not
exclude epic-fail (as well as epic fail of the “Abakan” assault rifle) with Armata-story
    after practice in the field.

  12. You overuse the "nuke" argument... if nukes will enter the stage there will be NO more wars, that one will be the last one. And rather pretty short one. From Cold War tanks are design with full NBC protection, there is no need to reinvent the wheel again. Or you want to say that to this possible moment Russian tanks did not have a proper NBC protection?

If this is for real the Armata now... then, well that turret will catch rounds like mad. It is a huge move away from classic Soviet compact and low silhouette philosophy in opposite... huge and tall.

  13. How can you have so much confidence there is a major war coming? Why is our nuclear deterrent less effective now than it was during the cold war?

    ReplyDelete
  14. why won't nuclear detterence work for future battlefields? because its only applied to attacks against the US or Europe. i don't see those being targeted in the future. i see Israel being attacked, i expect major action in the Pacific involving China vs Japan or the Philippines or Taiwan...i see India vs. Pakistan and not one of those countries have we vowed to defend with nuclear weapons.

    ReplyDelete
  15. If Israel gets hit with a nuke there won't be much for us to do. The country is simply so small they can't take a hit like that and keep going. As for China vs Japan, I think you are overestimating the Japanese As a society they are too old, too broke, and too pacifistic to ever tangle with the Chinese. India vs Pakistan I could see happening but hope we would not get involved. My brother actually lives in Taiwan as a minister so I'm pretty up on that situation. Taiwan is similar to Japan in that it has atrocious demographics. I've been from one end of the island to the other and wouldn't suggest we fight with China over it.

  16. There is something really wrong with society when you are no longer "allowed" to use common sense. Everything has to be written down and everyone can't go take a pee unless it's part of "proceedure".

  17. Putin wants to build a high speed railway all the way to the Bering Strait, so that Russia can transport tons of troops, armors, and military equipment to the Bering Straight by rail.

    http://www.ibtimes.com/putin-considering-russian-high-speed-train-would-end-bering-strait-doorstep-alaska-us-1855716

Putin Given Plan for High-Speed Railway Through Siberia to Alaska

The head of Russia's Academy of Sciences said he has submitted to President Vladimir Putin a proposal for building a high-speed railway that would cut across most of Siberia and all the way to the Bering Strait, the strip of water that divides Russia from Alaska.

  18. For the largest part Russia is also modernizing old armor instead of making new ones and its going to take them a while before they catch up with numbers reducing due to age and wear.
And if they suffer another economical meltdown during the next 5 years akin to the one in the 90:s its not going to be pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  19. "Wet dream"... this would be an monumental construction that would cost unimaginable number of cash. Just like the Bering Strait bridge ect. cash flow away from Russia with speed of light now, they will not take serious some fantasy ideas that would cost more they can imagine.

A common misunderstanding of the role of the Nuke in the conflicts. It is a merely a bomb. Just a big one.

Soviets considered nuke is not the end. It is just the beginning. Beginning of the brand new world, etc.

  23. >... a watch tower on tracks.

    this tower is a carcass-mask, actually =)

    >That's look like and probably is the Object 195

there is nothing bad about it. Comparing to other modern battle tanks - reinventing a 195 in the new level with a corrected design will be just fine to beat the hell out of others.

    - capsule
    - brand new active protection
    - reduced weight of armor(NII Stali sends their regards =) )
    - Modular weapon system(if shit hits the fan - you could see a 152mm gun there)
    - finally localized equipment.

This tank possess enough "new" as Info-Infantry said. Just do not be too jealous :D

  24. The funniest thing here - they masked the weaponry module. Guys, you were advertising it on TV for a damn year! :D And now "SHHH! It's a secret!"

Oh, Russian Secrecy, rolling the squares and dragging the rounds.

  25. >Pitting the Gripen against the Su-35 results in 1.6 of the Sukhois shot down for each Gripen lost

I wouldnt rely on such "simulation". New Flanker has an monstrous jamming system, high power radar and a fifth-gen weaponry, backed up with supermaneurobilty. So in terms of both BVR and WVR it cant drastically lose to Grippen. So i wouldnt rely on the numbers about F-35 loosing to Su-35 without an option.

We have to wait for Su-30MKI to meet F-35 in training - i guess, there we begin a some sort of discussion backed with some facts. Until then - war of marketing, not planes/

Yeah, some kind of F-22"bis" would been awesome. Corrected aerodynamics

  27. @You overuse the
    "nuke" argument..@

I don’t think so, pan. The very Object 195 is not abandoned as it was said – at my take it took its evolution in Armata, because reportedly Armta’s chassis is accounted to carry a 152mm gun-an instrument to launch tactical nukes (it was well-spread opinion that 122m is not a comfortable design for nuke). Our defense doctrine definitely said – if it be a threat for us we will unleash our Armageddon weapon. There are not only words – I see this everywhere – in legends of our numerous army drillings, in constant launches all different nuke-carriers the line we have, in our global re-arm program, in our official propaganda, in Donbass’s conflict and in ballsy Armata’s shape I feel the nuke flame too. We are prepared to nuke war on all the levels.

@thatone will be the last one.@

If we, Russians, survive as a civilization (and we have all chances for this) we definitely will find someone to fight, bggg,

@Or you want to say that to this possible moment Russian tanks did not have a proper NBC protection?@

As I know the NBC protection of our tanks it the world-best, only Indians on their
T-90 have the better level because ordered double to normal anty-NBC lining.

@well that turret will catch rounds like mad.@

Tank is a soldier – and is designed for death. Aircraft conception follows illusion to strike from heavens and disappear. Land units faces Death – there is no an immortal tank as a man as well. Armata suites our Defense doctrine’s logic – it is more than enough. But, again, I’m awaiting for Armata’s field practice. Only real results I trust.

  28. India and Pakistan wont go to Nuclear War, if you saw my earlier post where I gave the Youtube link of our NSA Ajit Doval's speech about countering Pakistan we dont need Nuclear weapons to Break them.

  29. Info-Infantry Info-Infantry Info-Infantry launch tactical nukes... Our defense doctrine definitely said – if it be a threat for us we will unleash our Armageddon weapon.

Russians really don't have even the smallest faith in own conventional force do they? All the time the "nuke" argument from low to to brass... nobody believe that Russian soldier can fight against any type of organised conventional forces? With that type of thinking... I wonder why the nukes did not start to fly towards Ukraine already. The only nation by now that tangle own doctrine of ANY war around Nukes is Russia... no offense info' but that is cowards tactic.

@If we, Russians, survive as a civilization (and we have all chances for this)...

No info' you have not even a 0 chances... nobody of us will have, this will be an extinct of our race. And if we somehow survive this, Russians will hunt to the last man and child and erased from memory of humanity. There will be global exterminatus and "Russia" will became a grave curse to the end of times.

@Tank is a soldier – and is designed for death.

That is the "East" point of view... the "West" point of view is that Soldier is not designed to die but to kill enemy...

@Armata suites our Defense doctrine’s logic...

Te Russian "defense" doctrine is a sarcasm right?

s300v4 s300v4 A common misunderstanding of the role of the Nuke in the conflicts. It is a merely a bomb. Just a big one.

No, it is a game changer, the red line that YOU CAN'T cross... use of nuke will put in motion the domino chain and will end our race extinction. Soviets did not start a "brand new world" because the perfectly know that there would be NO WORLD after that.

@This tank possess enough "new" as Info-Infantry said. Just do not be too jealous

Jealous? In tank department... Russians should be jealous for now. 142 Leos A4 and 105 A5... in almost every term Russian armored forces are hopelessly outmatch in case of quality against even A4. The Armata will give Russians finally something that can go against A5 on equal terms... but to this moment our A4 & A5 will be updated to A7 standard. And Germans start already working on Leo 3. No to mention Korean K-2, Japanese Type 10. No lad we have nothing to be jealous about because Russia lost tech race a decade ago, they try to make up for that but in tank tech you are really way behind, for now.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Russians perfectly know that Armata will be not ready for production for long time and it will cost too much, so new orders for B3 as "real" MBT in Russian Armor for at least next decade.
