This is a chance for Europe to get on the same page and maybe even take the lead in main battle tank technology. The planning is long term and appears doable but with a big "IF". If they're able to halt the decline in tank forces now and if they can get everyone, regardless of what tank they operate to upgrade to a certain standard (probably Leopard 2A7+) and then do an "armored F-35" within the EU, then they could lead the world.
It'll never happen though.
