Is this how cyber security works now?

For the last day and a half I've been experiencing problems with Google services.  No big deal, I just flexed into Microsoft or Firefox (most the fox...MS Edge looks nice but I'm not willing to try and set it up), but what has me stumped is that despite various "is it up" websites reporting problems, no one in the media is covering the issue.

Like I said its been a day and a half and no word from the media or Google as to what's going on.

Is this how cyber security works now?  Even outages are treated as state secrets?

The on good thing that has come out of this is that I now know the need to diversify my information and not rely on one company as my portal to info on the net.  Does that mean I rotate which browser I use and move pics, folders etc...to other servers...maybe even setup more backups at home?  Yeah probably.  But more importantly this shows me how reliant we are on the internet now (thinking banking, food, transportation..).

I don't like relying on systems that have so many exploitable points of failure.
