What target got hit to turn night into day in Donetsk?

Many thanks to Andrius for the vid!

Many are guessing ammo depot.

I don't think so.  We should be seeing plenty of secondary explosions if that was the case.  A poorly organized fuel farm?  Maybe.  I'll be watching for reports of damage from the Donetsk region with a bit more care over the next few days.

  1. check out the original from 'camera 3'. There seem to be a few smaller explosions possibly consistent with grad's a second before the big one

    1. Only couple of explosions... not BM-21, classic artillery salvo hit something really good.

  4. Rebels and Donetsk locals, who I keep reliable, told it was an explosion in the Donetsk chemical plant’s explosive storage. The reason of such impressive “mushroom” - the construction of the storage’s buildings – they were designed to provide explosion’s wave going upwards, not around. Good-old soviet design skool.

    1. The problem is... that this chemical plant already blow up in last year, everything that "can" blow up in this plant already did that. Ukrainians are mainly silent about that for now, not to mention some fantastic theory of catching under salvo an BM-21 column.

The most logic thing is that Ukrainians put an salvo in that place because they know something will be there, like an ammo dump. Maybe this is the one of not that many times when Ukrainian field intelligence work perfectly fine and give a solid coordination for artillery strike.

    2. @that this chemical plant already blow up in last year,@

    3. This plant was an ruin after first explosion, huge boom and long term fire that, well burn out itself. There would be no additional intact storage there, it was not that big plant after all... to close to the city to be one. They probably would have couple of small storage's for explosive materials or one central, if we take in account the last explosion power, they had single central one.

For ammo dump it would be good place to hide, plant already in ruin so why shoot at it again? Not that bad place to hide something. More or less, Ukrainians exactly knows where to hit and maybe even when exactly. Indeed good shot.

But as you mention, who knows... too much fog of war there.

Ha! The Rebels reported they took Loginovo under control and cut off the single road to Debali, they do not control before. Good preparation for negotiations, if it is Truth.
